Being SMART online is dog-gone important.

We have been learning what to do if we find something we don't like online or something that makes us feel uncomfortable. I am really glad that we get to learn how to be

online because I want to be a smart learner whenever I'm online.

We had to complete a sorting activity and this is what I decided was the right thing to do if I find something I don't like when I am online. What would you do if you found something online that you didn't like?

Our final activity was to create our own infographic to teach other people about how to be SMART online. This is what I made. I hope you learn something from it.

Making Kindness Go Viral

We are learning how the example we set can support others to be kind online.
Today in Cybersmart we investigated random acts of kindness from within New Zealand and across the world.

I was inspired by schoolgirl Maiyah from Gilberthorpe School in Christchurch as she bakes cupcakes in her holidays and sell them. The money she makes she buys care packages for the homeless people in Christchuch. Click here if you would like to learn more about Maiyah.

I have come up with some random acts of kindness

I chose to put money in someone parking meter that had expired while I was on holiday.

Doing this act of kindness made me feel really good about myself and I realised by helping others it also helped me to feel good and fill my bucket.

Why don't you have a go at a random act of kindness?

What to do if something goes wrong! - Stepping Up

We are learning how to stand up to behaviour we don’t like online (and in person).

I now know and understand what to do when something doesn’t seem right online. Even when I am being Cybersmart, sometimes I will come across something online that makes them feel uncomfortable or I don’t like.

This is the resource I have been using to learn.

Five tips to deal with haters and trolls

First, don't respond. Responding could make things worse.

Second, ignore them. Focus on positive thoughtful and helpful comments and move on.

Third, block or unfollow. Use the site privacy settings to disconnect from the person.

Fourth, report it. Use the community reporting tools to let the site know that someone is abusing their guidelines.

And fifth take screenshots. If the comments are really bad save the evidence in case things escalate.

Look at the slideshow above and then try the quiz below. Once you have finished you will get your score and see your answers.
Have a go!
